Since the club's inception in 1907, it has been part of its constitution that it supports charitable causes through its musical endeavours. Many of these charities have been local, like the Royal Hospital for Sick Children - however, others have been national, like Action for Research into Multiple Sclerosis, the Scottish Cot Death Trust and the Childrens Hospice Association Scotland ("CHAS"); and there have also been international contributions, for example to the Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Project (Ghana). Some charities have benefited from GLOC's support for a number of consecutive years - and now, in her centenary year, GLOC can proudly look back at over 30 distinct charities that she has helped since 1907...

Every day 10 families in the UK are told their child has cancer. As the UK's leading children's cancer charity, CLIC Sargent is the only organisation to offer them all round care and support. That’s because we’re there every step of the way:

During treatment – providing specialist nurses, play specialists, Homes from Home;

In hospital & at home – offering specialist social care and support in the community – services for young people, holidays, grants, helpline;

After treatment – helping survivors, supporting those bereaved.

The chosen charity for any production benefits on three main fronts: the charity is advertised on all material produced in relation to the forthcoming show, i.e. ticket booking forms, posters and programmes; the charity is invited to provide collectors at the theatre during "show week" to take advantage of the generosity of our patrons; and, once the accounts for a production are finalised, the club members take a view as to the amount of any additional donation to be made from club funds - in recent times this donation has been as high as £2,500.
