Club Do Merry Widow No Violence
The Glasgow Light Opera Club's production of "The Merry Widow," which opened a weeks run at the Empress Theatre last night, receives the full treatment of lavish dresses and colour.

Thelma McIntyre (Anna) and Bill Thomson (Danilo) make a vivacious and well matched pair bringing vitality and some highly creditable singing to the principal roles, while Stewart Hutton contributes a beguiling and bumbling Baron Zeta.

Tom Raffel's production moves smoothly enough, though without much variation in pace, and chorus singing is adequate without packing much punch. Perhaps as the week progresses, the company will loose some of their restraint.

The skeleton orchestra conducted by John Tweedie is one of the great assets.

The opera is presented in aid of the Falcon Theatre Fund.
