Light Opera Club's "Desert Song"
Sigmund Romberg's "The Desert Song" is the choice of the Glasgow Light Opera Club for their presentation this week at the King's Theatre. This hardy perennial is put over with much zest, particularly by the young dancers, whose costumes are gay and colourful. The chorus work, once they catch up with the orchestra,is very good.

Robert McKechnie's voice is perfect for the part of the "Red Shadow,"especially in the solo "One Alone,"ably backed by the male chorus. The part of Margo is played by Sheila Aitken, whose pleasant soprano voice is well suited to the role.Trudy Marshall is Susan, the comedienne.

Judging from the well filled theatre last night, the club, in its 56th year, are assured of success.

THE "SONG" OF SUCCESS
With Christmas shows already opened or about to open, Glasgow Light Opera Club had the first night field to themselves last night.

Their production of "The Desert Song" at the King's has plenty of pace and the precision of a well rehearsed show.

FULL OF EASTERN PROMISE
BEYOND the shadow of a doubt... if you want to see a good show, in the grand tradition of the theatre, I heartily recommend the Glasgow Light Opera Club's production of "The Desert Song" at the King's, Glasgow. It is an outstanding production, with all the verve and enthusiasm of amateurs and a professional touch.

The grand music of Sigmund Romberg is well sung by the romantic "Red Shadow" of Robert McKechnie, very ably supported by Sheila Aitken as Margot Bonvalet.

Lorraine Paterson dances seductively as Azuri, the Moroccan girl.

The entire show, backed by grand male and female choruses, is full of Eastern Promise..... A colourful, well dressed presentation for the 56th year of the club.
