"Brigadoon"
COMES TO LIFE AGAIN
Brigadoon, a Scottish village which comes to life every 100 years, reappeared again last night at the King's Theatre.
The village is discovered by two stranded Americans, one of whom falls in love with a girl from Brigadoon.
Then of course the village fades into the shades of never never. But true love proves stronger than time, and the lovers are once more reunited.
The show which was presented by the Glasgow Light Opera Club had an excellent cast, with Grace W. Leggatt as Meg, Ann Veitch as Fiona, and Irene Munro as Maggie, providing comedy and fine singing.
Choreography made heavy demands on the dancers but they were met with a vigour which was wholly satisfying.
The orchestra conducted by John Tweedie under the leadership of Bob Connelly, kept the pace smooth and the whole show displayed a fluidity which made for fine entertainment.

MISTY MAGIC OF "BRIGADOON"
"Brigadoon" made an enchanting reappearance last night at the King's Theatre, Glasgow. The Glasgow Light Opera Club have captured the magic of the show, the haunting melodies, the Scotch mist and all.
Tommy Albright the American who loses his heart to a Highland girl is played by Gordon Telfer. He has improved his characterisation of the part since I saw him do it last year in Kilmarnock, but his voice is still a shade too vibrant.
Ann Veitch, as Fiona, has a nice voice and could stand a less restrained accompaniment in her numbers, here the orchestra sounded rather thin and undernourished, particularly in the strings.
There was an occasional lapse in liaison between the backstage chorus and the conductor which will doubtless be corrected as the week goes on, otherwise the chorus, and the dancers in particular, are really very good.
Meg, the extrovert manhunter, is splendidly played by Grace Leggatt. She has the brash quality of singing voice required for this part. But surely in this country it is not necessary to resort to recorded bagpipe music.

Bright Brigadoon
BRIGADOON, the fairytale highland village which comes to life every 100 years - brings gaiety, songs and pleasure to the King's.
Glasgow Light Opera Club's presentation is as good as any.
You can hear every word, and the singing of Ann Veitch as "Fiona," Gordon Telfer as "Tommy Albright," and comedienne Grace W. Leggatt as "Meg Brockie" is excellent.
The music - Scottish muted and modernised - is graced with a highland ballet technique from Irene Munro as "Maggie Abernethy."
