My Fair Lady - A musical in two acts, by Lerner and Loewe (1956). Music by Frederick Loewe; Lyrics and Book by Alan Jay Lerner.

Based on Shaw's "Pygmalion", the memorable songs and unforgettable characters make this one of the classic shows of the twentieth century. Eliza Doolittle, a rough flower girl from Covent Garden is transformed into an elegant lady with beautiful speech by Professor Henry Higgins, a phonetician. The transformation takes many months and we are treated to brief, hilarious glimpses of the process until Eliza emerges triumphant. On the way, there are romantic interludes and comic capers which keeps the show bouncing along.

My Fair Lady opened at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on March 15, 1956 and enjoyed a run of 2,717 performances which lasted more than nine years. The original production featured Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins and Julie Andrews as Eliza. The 1964 film version starred Rex Harrison, Stanley Holloway and Audrey Hepburn.
