Fiddler on the Roof

A musical in two acts by Joseph Stein and Sheldon Harnick. (1964).

Based on the stories by Sholom Aleichem, the show follows the trials and tribulations of Tevye the milkman, a Jew with five daughters in pre revolutionary Russia. Tevye strives against the inexorable changes which are happening in the world, trying to maintain the Traditions which sets he and his people apart, but a man can only bend so far, and in the end he loses one daughter to a soldier who is involved in the subjecrion of the village to the pogroms; its inhabitants scattered to the four winds.
