[The Cast] The Desert Song

A musical play in two acts. Music by Sigmund Romberg. (1926).

A love story with a twist; set in the Riff mountains (the desert), Margot, our heroine is in love with the Red Shadow, a dashing horseman who wields a sabre, and leads the Arabs in their struggle. Precisely what this struggle is, is never really made clear. Due to a twist of fate, the Red Shadow is in reality the son of the French Governor, and acts the simpleton in order to maintain his secret identity. Comic relief comes in the form of Benny, a reporter, and his girlfriend, Susan. After many adventures and hearty singing, the Red Shadow is "Killed" and the two lovers are united.

Producer - Alan C. Jones
Musical Director - Gordon Currie
Choreographer - Christine Lacey

The chosen charity for this show was Quarrier's Epilepsy Centre and they benefited from a donation of £1500.
